Brandon Lane Surgery

Attached Staff

Community Nurses

The Community Nurses provide Nursing Care and Advice to patients in their own homes.  They liaise with Hospitals and other Specialised Nurses and Services such as Home Care, Social Services, The Macmillan Unit and Chiropody.  They can arrange extra support for patients who require long-term care.

District Nursing Team

The District Nursing Team provides nursing care in patients homes.  They help and advise patients towards self-care that families can safely follow. The District Nurses are not based at the surgery but visit on a regular basis.

Health Visitors

Health Visitors are Qualified Nurses who have received Specialist Training in Child and Family Health.  Early detection of ill-health, monitoring of growth and development and Health Promotion are their responsibility, with particular reference to mothers, babies and the under 5’s.  The Health Visitor liaises closely with the GPs, other members of the Nursing Team, Children’s Centres and Professions allied to medicine such as Speech Therapists, Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators and Social Workers.  The Health Visitors have knowledge of the facilities and resources available to families and children in the area.  They will see clients at home or in the surgery.

The podiatrist visits the surgery at least once a month. The podiatry service aims to prevent and improve foot problems through assessment, treatment and education.

We have a Counsellor attached to the Practice on a part time basis.  They are happy to see any patient referred by the Doctor.  They deal with emotional problems which are affecting health.  A patient may be seen regularly for 4 to 6 weeks in these cases.

A Hospital Dietitian visits the practice once a month to advise patients on dietary needs.  Almost all her appointments are taken by diabetic patients, but very occasionally she may have a free appointment to advise other patients with dietary problems.
